Advertisers compress sound levels that when compared against programmes – which have a wider variation in levels – can appear louder. We have recognised this and use perceived loudness meters to measure the actual loudness of the sound. This means we can adjust the levels of commercials and interstitial materials in accordance with Ofcom guidelines.
